Strap yourselves in for one hell of an entertaining podcast as we have Dr. Lance Timmerman returning to the show.  He was last seen on Episode 26 way back in the day!  On this episode, Lance talks about how a company that provides SEO to small businesses screwed him over, holding his website content hostage.  Justin and Jeff then go straight to Google to judge Lance's website and SEO... and that is when we stumbled upon some of the hilariously awful patient reviews he has under his belt.

Gabe is notably missing from this episode because he was too busy taking pictures of dick-shaped clouds in Nebraska.

Check out Lance's website and be sure to read some of the hilarious reviews he has received (along with plenty of good ones!) by visiting https://www.drtimmerman.com/

PS. Originally, since Justin and Jeff forgot to ask Lance for a song to close his episode out with, we were going to end with "Oops I Did It Again" but Lance ended up requesting Tom Jones' "Mama Told Me Not to Come" — which we're OK with!

Thanks for the giggles, Lance!

Believe it or not, folks... Dentists, Implants and Worms have made it to Episode 100!  In celebration of our huge milestone episode, we decided to try out something different by featuring some of our closest friends and supporters on the show.  In short, it didn't go well due to technical difficulties— mainly because the three of us are Skype newbies. (Yeah, we'll work on that.)

Regardless of the "shit show" when it came to Skype, we managed to make the best of it by briefly connecting with our biggest fans: Mike Freimuth, DDS; The Dental Hacks Podcast (Alan Mead, DDS and Jason Lipscomb, DDS); Erin Elliott, DDS; Lisa Moler; The Life and Dentistry Podcast; Danny Domingue, DDS.

Perhaps, even more notably, The Worm himself— John Landers, DDS— decided to grace us with his presence.

I promise you there IS some dental content discussed around the 1 hour 20 minute mark (thank you Dr. Domingue).  All in all though, it was a greatly entertaining podcast and I truly mean it when I say that I've never had so much fun taking around 3 hours of technical difficulties and non-sequiters and cutting it down to a super-sized (1 hour and 40 minutes) episode of Dentists, Implants and Worms.

We can't thank ALL 100 of our previous guests enough.  Trust us, if we were able to, we would have Skyped you all in, but as you can tell from listening to this episode, we could barely handle 8 guests, let alone 100.

Here's to another 100 episodes of the podcast that navigates you through the world of dentistry, one vodka-soda at a time!  Thank you for listening and supporting us, and cheers!

A ghost from the world of dentistry's past walked through the doors of the Voices of Dentistry Podcast Summit and we were lucky enough (and honored) to sit him down for a tell-all interview.  Ryan Swain is the founder and former CEO of Six Month Smiles.  He has not been in the world of dentistry for at least the last four years and has in the process become somewhat missing in action.  Suddenly he showed up for the Voices of Dentistry Podcast Summit and we just had to hear his story and see what he's up to.

Ryan speaks about his history with Six Month Smiles and also goes into the gut-wrenching divorce that has forced him to audit his life and his priorities.  He has a simple warning for all dentists, businessmen, businesswomen— people who work hard and are extremely driven by nature— "slow your ass down and learn to say no sometimes."  This is a piece of honest advice that all dentists, businessmen and women should take to heart.

To find a balance on this hamster wheel of life— that is truly the key to finding peace and happiness.

Along with Ryan Swain and the usual suspects, Justin, Gabe and Jeff, we were also joined by Danny Domingue.  We wish Ryan Swain all the luck and good fortune as he continues his journey on the hamster wheel. We would definitely love to have him back!

From his practice's website at http://www.tenneseedentist.com/ :

"I graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2011 with honors and received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Tennessee College of Dentistry in 2015, where I received the Dean’s Award for Clinical Excellence.

As a dentist, I have the unique opportunity to truly impact people’s lives. When I’m relieving discomfort, straightening teeth and restoring function, or providing a beautiful and confident smile, I’m helping my patients look and feel better.

I am honored that patients come to me and trust me with their oral health. The lifelong friendships we build and strengthen during their visits are immensely rewarding. I love our conversations and what each person chooses to share with me. Not only does this create a bond, but it gives me insight into the best way to approach their oral healthcare needs.

I’m proud to be a fifth-generation dentist and to be joining my father in our family practice. Growing up in a dental family, seeing the fulfillment my father and grandfather found in their days, and witnessing the friendships they made with their patients; all these made dentistry the logical path. I have no doubt I made the right decision.

My formal schooling provided a great foundational knowledge with regard to dentistry. However, oral healthcare is a constantly changing discipline. With developments in techniques and technology, as well as new materials, it’s essential I remain current on the changes. By participating in multiple continuing education courses and attending meetings and lectures through the American Dental Association, I stay up to date with the developments.

I’m particularly excited by my continuing education in Six Month Smiles®, an accelerated, cosmetic braces solution that creates incredible smiles. I also completed Pinhole Rejuvenation with Dr. John Chao, and I am a graduate of Alabama Implant Education. In addition, I am a member of the American Dental Association, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Most recently I have spent quite a bit of time furthering my education with implants. I am currently a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

I grew up in and have now returned to Brentwood, TN, following my four years in Memphis for dental school. It’s exciting to be home again, serving my friends and neighbors.

I married my amazing, beautiful, Godly wife Caroline in 2013. We met in our senior year at the University of Tennessee in social dance class. After several years of long-distance romance while I was in dental school, we were married on Kiawah Island in her home state of South Carolina. Caroline is extremely talented, having graduated in the top of her class at UT’s business school. Right now it’s just the two of us at home, but you never know what the future holds!

When we’re not working, you’ll often find Caroline and me walking at Radnor Lake or cooking an amazing meal. On weekends, we’re either wake boarding and waterskiing with friends and family or heading to Knoxville to cheer on the Volunteers!

Personally, I’m committed to my relationship to Jesus Christ and thankful for all I have been given through him. He is the rock in my life, my family, and my hobbies."

We got to hang out with The Dental Guys at the Voices of Dentistry Podcast Summit in Nashville, TN. We had a great time getting to know Jon and Wes and also talked about some very relevant dental topics. This podcast happens to strike the perfect balance of content and goofing off— much to the credit of The Dental Guys for keeping us in-line. Enjoy Part Two of our two-hour podcast with The Dental Guys!

The Dental Guys podcast is the brainchild project of Wes and Jon.  Years ago Wes and Jon met at a continuing education event and immediately started a passionate on-going conversation about dentistry.  This conversation never ended and instead expanded to become the basis for the podcast.

Jon is a 2006 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and has always wanted to excel in his dental practice.  He has completed more than 1000 hours of continuing education including traveling abroad to train on dental implant therapy.  Jon is passionate about research and evidence-based practice and is not afraid to question the routines that dentists get into over a career.  You can often find him reading a journal during his lunch break.

Wes is a graduate of West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 2003 and University of Tennessee General Practice residency in 2004.  He maintains a private practice and is an instructor and attending for UT Medical Center.  Wes has attained fellowship status in the AGD and continues to train to learn advanced techniques.  He has over 13 years experience with dental implant placement and complex restorations.  Wes has always been on the cutting edge of technology in his practice and in his life and he brings this knowledge to the table on the podcast.

The Dental Guys podcast is dedicated to helping our fellow dentists take their clinical practice to the next level through discussing controversial and complex topics, reviewing dental research to see how it affects clinical practice, and sharing our combined experience as we learn together with our listeners.

Enjoy Part One of our two-hour podcast with The Dental Guys!

The Dental Guys podcast is the brainchild project of Wes and Jon.  Years ago Wes and Jon met at a continuing education event and immediately started a passionate on-going conversation about dentistry.  This conversation never ended and instead expanded to become the basis for the podcast.
