Get ready to trade-in your dental drills for some dental lasers after listening to this episode! We have Dr. Tim Kelly of Rapid City, SD in studio with us and he tells us all about why he loves dental laser technology when it comes to the treatment plans of several different areas of dental health.
Dr. Tim Kelly really loves lasers. I mean, he really loves them! Tim JUST opened a brand new dental clinic in the Rapid City area and you can visit his website at http://rushmoredental.com/
Tim and the gang discuss how lasers are used as an adjunct to dentistry, tooth preparation (THE SAFE PREPS without patient discomfort), treatment for periodontitis, implants with peri-implantitis vs mucositis, misconceptions, inadequate or over treatment of soft tissue, crown and bridge margins class V fillings, margins exposure or crown lengthening and when and why lab techs will love you.
From Rushmore Dental's website:
Tim Kelly, DDS, a graduate of Creighton University Dental School, has held a WCLI Mastership since 2004, and in 2007 completed ALD parts 1 and 2 AP. Dr. Kelly is also a member of the AGD, ADA, MDA, AASMD, and LVI. He has been using diode lasers since 1995, and WaterLase since 2002. Since 2004, Dr. Kelly has worked with BIOLASE Research and Development as a chief clinical examiner and clinical trainer on both and diode and WaterLase laser systems. Dr Kelly was the CTO and a principal partner of LaserGenie, Inc., a manufacturing and distributor of dental lasers systems. Apparently it's Old School week on Dentists, Implants and Worms because our latest episode was essentially a University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry reunion with Justin and Dr. Grant Ritchey. That's pretty much all I got for show notes on this one... this was all Justin and Grant! Definitely check out Grant's podcast, The Prism, where he does the opposite of what we do on our podcast... deliver relevant, scientific content!
Thanks, Grant, for being a guest on our show! And it was a lot of fun to listen to you guys talk some shop (and trash) about your times at OU.
From Dr. Ritchey's website:
I was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from Norman High School in 1978. Following high school, I attended the University of Kansas, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology. Although my father is a dentist, it was not in my original plan to become one myself; after all, I had to rebel and do my own thing, right? One problem with this plan was that I couldn't help but notice how much my dad enjoyed what he did, how he thrived on the relationships he developed with his patients over the years, and how much he enjoyed learning new things and changing people's lives. I decided I wanted the same fulfillment in my career, so I swallowed my pride, admitted my dad was right, and attended the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, graduating in 1986. Although it was somewhat painful to attend school with a bunch of Oklahoma Sooners, I survived and was able to purchase the Lawrence practice of Dr. John Albers soon after graduation.
From 1987 until 1999, I practiced in both Lawrence and Tonganoxie, dividing the time between them. Following the sale of my Lawrence practice in 1998, I have settled full time in Tonganoxie, a wonderful small town with great people. Although I don't live there, Tonganoxie feels like home to me.
Brandon Evert was kind enough to reach out and request to be on our show. He right in the middle of his educational career at Indiana University, expected to graduate in 2018. So, while he is by far our youngest guest to be on the podcast... He proved himself to be quite the budding dentist! Moody even grilled him over interview questions that they would ask while in the process of graduating or certified. He passwed with flying colors.
Fun fact: Brandon also follows another passion of his which is rock music. He plays guitar and provides vocals for his band, Chasing 401. They're pretty cool, so definitely check them out on YouTube!
Thanks for reaching out to us and for being a fan of our podcast, Brandion! We'll keep 'em coming as long as you stay a listened! Let us know if you need any sort of mentorship and we will be glad to help you out!

Ever heard of a dentist placing his own implant in his own mouth? Well, prepare to have your minds blown— and probably cringe a little. Daniel Hatch, DDS and Jerome Cha, DDS joined us in Podcast Studio 1-A for our latest episode. Both were taking a continued education course from Justin over the weekend. Dr. Hatch joins us from Montrose, Colorado and Dr. Cha joins us from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Dr. Cha is a passionate dentist practicing in Tulsa, but he is also a very passionate photographer. He's quite good too! He recently took a trip to Iceland, where he took some amazing photographs. He goes into how he became interested in photography, the details that go along with it and why we should all have that one hobby that gets us out of the house and out of the office.
Alright, brace yourselves for this one. Dr. Hatch is a great dentist, sure. But he truly achieved notoriety due to his YouTube video of him placing an implant in his OWN MOUTH. Crazy, right? He goes into the story on our podcast so LISTEN TO HIS STORY FIRST AND THEN... You gotta check out this video of Dr. Hatch placing his own implant. Check it out on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVKCFHgUikM
