We're carrying on our streak of orthodontists on the show— this time we had the chance to talk to Dr. Sean K. Carlson, who is a Board Certified Orthodontist who lectures worldwide on CBCT.  Dr. Carlson gave us plenty of insight into how the airway and breathing can be compromised and how orthodontics is the best course of action when putting together a treatment plan.

Dr. Carlson is the owner and operator of his practice, Carlson Orthodontics, and he lectures around the country with Carlson Quintero Seminars.

Dr. Carlson is a Board Certified Orthodontist who received his dental degree from Harvard University in 1994. There he was awarded the American Association of Orthodontists Award upon graduation for demonstrating exceptional interest in the development of the oro-facial complex. He received both his Orthodontic Specialty training and his Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from the University of California at San Francisco in 1998.

Dr. Carlson is an Associate Professor of Orthodontics at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry where he teaches one day a week. He has received several academic research awards including two American Association of Orthodontists Foundation Awards and has published numerous articles and abstracts in the orthodontic literature. He lectures nationally on a variety of clinical and theoretical subjects. His current lecture schedule focuses on three-dimensional imaging in orthodontics and the treatment of dental impactions.

Since 1998, Dr. Carlson has served as a Senior Investigator in the Craniofacial Research and Instrumentation Laboratory at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. His primary focus is on using computer technology to improve the way we study, teach and practice orthodontics. As a result of his research, he has been at the forefront of 3-D imaging technology since it was first introduced to the orthodontic profession. He installed Marin County’s first i-CAT 3-D CBCT x-ray machine in 2008.

We had the pleasure of having Dr. Jeffrey Wiswall, DDS, MS in-studio with us for this episode of Dentists, Implants and Worms.  Fun fact: Dr. Jeffrey Wiswall is currently the ONLY board certified Endodontist in the state of South Dakota.

Endodontists are a rare (and strange) breed of dental specialists... such a rare breed that many dental professionals wonder why these Endodontists go into their specialty to begin with.  That was proven when Gabe asked Dr. Jeff Wiswall if he had lost a bet when he decided to go into Endodontics.

We discussed what sort of an edge board certification can give an endodontist when marketing to the public.  Does the public care about board certification?  Find out Dr. Wiswall's opinion in this episode.

You can check out more of Dr. Wiswall's work by visiting his website at http://www.drwiswall.com

Great discussion with Dr. Wiswall.  Thank you for being on the show!

Here's the conclusion— the second part of our interview with Dr. Edward Zuckerberg, DDS. We talk about so many things— too many to list, really. You'll just have to listen. We were amazed by the innovative mind, the down-to-earth personality and, of course, the exquisite taste in wine that Ed expressed to us. Such an honor!

We got the chance to interview Dr. Edward Zuckerberg, DDS— who is notably the father of Mark Zuckerberg (yes, that Mark Zuckerberg). Ed is a fantastic dentist who is just as forward thinking as his son, Mark. In this two-part episode, we were also graced with the presence of Dr. John Landers— so this was our first episode with a full-house in-studio! Not bad for thirteen episodes in.

Dr. Zuckerberg is a 1978 graduate of New York University College of Dentistry. He completed a general practice residency at the Brooklyn V.A. Hospital in 1979 and received advanced training in Oral Surgery, Periodontics, Endodontics (Root Canal) and Prosthetics (Crown, Bridges and Dentures). In 1984, Dr. Zuckerberg received a fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (F.A.G.D.) recognizing his superior achievements in post-graduate continuing education.

To this day, Dr. Zuckerberg regularly participates in courses to improve his craft utilizing modern techniques and materials. He has consulted with insurance companies and appeared as an expert witness in court. Dr. Zuckerberg has published articles in Dental Journals on his observations and on his development of new techniques and is featured in the September 2010 issue of Dentaltown Magazine where he writes on the use of Social Media (Facebook) for Dentists. His ability to render comprehensive care, while being especially sensitive to the needs of phobic patients, sets him apart from his colleagues. Dr. Zuckerberg’s outside interests include scuba diving, photography and contract bridge.

We had the pleasure of speaking to Dr. Douglas Chenin, DDS from San Francisco, California on the latest episode of Dentists, Implants and Worms.  Dr. Moody has an interesting connection to Dr. Chenin— they released a DVD series together!  We discuss a wide variety of topics ranging from Cone Beam Readers, orthodontics and sleep medicine.  Also, there may have been a spilled drink in there somewhere.

Dr. Chenin graduated from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and practiced for several years in the San Francisco Bay Area. He then started consulting with Anatomage, the creators of the Invivo5 3D imaging software and the Anatomage Surgical Guide System. He soon became Director of Clinical Affairs for the company, working with doctors all over the world to teach them about Anatomage's 3D imaging technology. He was also instrumental in the development and initial beta testing for the Anatomage Guide system. After working with Anatomage for five years, he launched his own company called Clinically Correct Inc, which focuses on CBCT education. Through Clinically Correct, he teaches everything from basic CBCT principles to advanced hands-on software training

If any of our listeners have questions about Dr. Chenin or his work, please feel free to e-mail him at dougchenin@gmail.com.

For more information about Anatomage Dental and Beam Readers, please visit http://dental.anatomage.com/ and https://www.beamreaders.com/

For more information about Clinically Correct, please visit https://clinicallycorrect.com/

Also, there were a couple of names mentioned that we thought we would give a shout-out to.  They are: Dr. David Hatcher and Dr. Erin Elliott.

Thank you for being on the show, Dr. Chenin!

PS. Sorry about the spilled drinks.

This was an interesting one.  We had the honor of having Dr. Brian Prouty join us in-studio... all the way from small-town Watertown, South Dakota!  We discussed everything from sedation dentistry to people's irrational fears of dentists (a fairly common hurdle for the dental professional to jump over).

Dr. Prouty DDS DICOI PC was born and raised in South Dakota. He is a biology/chemistry graduate from SDSU. Completed dental studies at Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2004. Implant training at the Medical College of Georgia School AAID Implant program in 2006. Completed intravenous sedation training at the Medical College of Georgia. Graduate of both the surgical, as well as the prosthetic programs of Misch International Institute.

Dr. Prouty is a fellow, a master, and a diplomat of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He is a charter member as well as an Instructor of the Rocky Mountain Dental Institute Implant Training Center. Dr. Prouty's goal has always been to be well trained in all facets of dentistry so he can deliver great personalized and comfortable care to his patients.

Be sure to take a look at Dr. Prouty's practice's website: http://familycosmeticandimplantdentistry.com/

Thank you, Dr. Prouty, for being our third in-studio guest!
