It's that time again for another in-studio guest... this time it's our first RETURN guest, Vicki McManus Peterson!  She originally appeared on the show a couple of weeks ago on Episode 52 and since she was travelling through South Dakota, we thought we'd have her on again!

Our other guest of honor is Bruce B. Baird, DDS who owns Productive Dentist Academy and Comprehensive Finance.  We've included his message below:

"When I started Productive Dentist Academy in 2004, my hope was to build a company that would help dentists:

  1. raise their production by a minimum of $300 per hour
  2. increase their take-home salary
  3. work fewer hours with less stress
  4. and do it all while raising the standard of patient care.

They were straightforward and simple goals, but in my 25 + years of practicing, I had not found a program that addressed these areas and gave me specific tools and real strategies for accomplishing each. Probably like you, I had attended my share of CE courses. You know, the ones that sound and look great, but in the practice, just don’t deliver real and measurable business results. Out of my frustration, PDA was born…

As dentist, my highest priority is to be productive and take care of my patients. To work on me so that I can follow-through on the promises I make to the team and my patients. That means I have to get rid of the ‘stinking thinking’ that holds me back. I need to work on my clinical speed, on the services that I provide, and be a leader in time management with the schedule. If that isn’t enough, I need to make sure the team is trained to support our patients and our business goals. The common denominator in all of it is me. That’s another reason why the idea of PDA appealed to me. At the hundreds of courses I attended over the years, I have listened to more than my share of participants whine about their practices. It got old… fast. PDA is not a place where people come to whine and complain and abdicate responsibility. It is a place where doctors accept full responsibility for themselves and their practice. There is common agreement that “It all starts with me.” And, there is excitement and a burning desire to raise the bar and get stronger and better—regardless of where one is starting on the journey.

PDA is better described as a community of friends (attend one of our programs and you’ll see what I mean). Since I began teaching PDA over six years ago, my own productivity has climbed $300 an hour EVERY YEAR. I know the information works.

To date, over 500 practices have attended PDA and that number is growing daily thanks to community-based networks such as Dental Town.

I hope to see and welcome you at an upcoming program. If you have any questions at all, or if you’re ready to enroll, contact Chris at 800.757.6077, ext. 1 or chris@productivedentist.com.

To your success!

Dr. Bruce Baird, President and Founder"

We had the opportunity to speak with the inventor of Prophix, Dr. Craig Kohler, on today's podcast.  Prophix is a video toothbrush, which syncs wirelessly to an app through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Take pictures of areas of interest and build a record of any changes. Get motivating tips and track your progress using the free Prophix app.

Check out Prophix at http://www.getprophix.com/

Dr. Craig S. Kohler D.D.S. M.B.A. MAGD has been practicing on the North Shore of Chicago for over 30 years. His dedication to his patient’s dental health is demonstrated through his use of cutting edge technology, his consistent pursuit of higher education, and his dedication to the comfort and satisfaction of his patients.

Dr. Kohler is among the elite dentists in the country that utilize microscopes to deliver premium care for their patients, enabling him to see at a magnification five times greater than the typical dentist. This allows him to partner with his patients in helping them keep their teeth for life. Continually integrating the newest technology available, a patient at Dr. Kohler’s office never doubts that they are being taken care of by an expert.

Dr. Kohler has always made pursuing continuing education a top priority. After completing his residency, Dr. Kohler went on to earn his Fellowship and Masters from the Academy of General Dentistry by completing 1600 hours of continued education. Less than one percent of the dentists in the country earn this esteemed award. Dr. Kohler’s continual pursuit of education reflects his desire to treat his patients with the same exceptional care that he would expect for himself. Dr. Kohler’s persistence to be the best motivates him to seek out continued instruction from acclaimed experts. In the State of Illinois only thirty-two hours of continued education per two years is required for dentists. This year alone Dr. Kohler will complete between 150-200 hours of education as he firmly believes that keeping a current understanding of the leading dental techniques is vital to his practice.

We were pretty thrilled to get Bruce Campbell on the podcast for today's episode... No, not the 'Evil Dead' Bruce Campbell... The patent lawyer, Bruce Campbell!  Well, his first name is Dutro, but he's still Bruce Campbell to us, okay?!

Anyway, this episode is all about TRADEMARKING your practice and why it's an important investment to consider in order to give your brand, your practice, your business ultimate protection.  You're starting up your practice and you have a killer name, awesome logo, a kick ass slogan, etc.  How awful would it be when you decide to invest half a million dollars into your practice, you become more and more successful over time and then come to find out there's some OTHER dentist with the same name, a weak logo and a stupid slogan?  Well, you'd be sad to find out that

Bruce takes this opportunity to chat with us about the importance of trademarks and why you should hire a lawyer instead of doing it yourself.  He also talks a bit about how he came to be a patent and trademark lawyer.

Find out more about Bruce's services at www.campbell-ip.com

From Bruce Campbell, himself...

"I am an intellectual property attorney with over 20 years of experience handling a wide variety of legal matters. I have substantial experience litigating patent, trademark and copyright infringement matters in courts across the country, as well as advising clients across a broad range of businesses and technologies on matters involving the management of their intellectual property rights and assets.

Not only can I help you in enforcing your intellectual property rights or defending you in the event you are named as a defendant in a lawsuit, but I also can help you avoid being targeted as a defendant in a patent, trademark or copyright infringement dispute."

Bruce recently prepared a special trademark report and it is entitled "Five Trademark Mistakes Every Business Owner Absolutely Must Avoid," and provides vital information regarding trademark selection, registration and conflict avoidance.  I would love to hear your thoughts on this Report.  The Special Report can be found at this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwQwbNxYijxFVzJFbF9ZcmRRaU0/view?usp=sharing.

SPECIAL OFFER FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS

Get in touch with Bruce Campbell about trademarking your brand or practice and you will receive a 20% discount on his flat-rate services.  Why wait?  You have no excuse not to trademark yourself now!  E-Mail him at bruce@campbell-ip.com

Today marks episode number fifty on Dentists, Implants and Worms!  And to celebrate, we were graced with the presence of a certain WORM who hasn't joined us since episode fourteen.  We took this special episode as an opportunity to reflect on the previous fifty guests we've had on the show and tell The Worm about what he missed.  It's just us on this episode, folks, so prepare yourselves for something a little different!

Tonight's episode is titled: "Hacking The System During a Night Attack at Scam School Using Bizarre Magic" or simply, "BRIAN FREAKIN' BRUSHWOOD!"

That's right, folks, we hustled our way into getting the podcasting extraordinaire, Brian Brushwood in Studio 1-A with us for the latest episode.  If you don't know who he is, shame on you.  Go to YouTube and look up "Scam School" or "Hacking the System" or "Night Attack" — you know what?  Just Google Brian Brushwood and prepare to laugh your ass off... a lot.

To say Brian is a cool guy is an understatement.  He's pretty down to earth for being a hotshot podcast and YouTube celebrity, you know?  We talked about so many things in tonight's podcast that... well, I just can't really list them all because we zipped along.  Someone must have put something in our drinks to make us zip through these topics.

Justin did provide some free dental advice in a rapid fire dental consultation.  And it looks like there's something brewing for next June in South Dakota.  So, stay tuned, friends.

Here's a little, official, biography on Brian:

Host of Scam School for Discovery & Hacking The System for NatGeo. Two Billboard #1 comedy albums. Eats fire. Sticks nails in eyes. Jackass and...pro dancer?

That's all you really need.  Check him out.  His twitter handle is @shwood and his website is, you guessed it, http://www.shwood.com./

Thank you for being on the show, Brian!  I have a feeling we will be seeing you again sometime soon... perhaps... in studio next year?

Cheers!

What happens when Rally Week takes over Rapid City, South Dakota and two of three hosts are hardcore bikers?  Well, that means we fall behind on episodes.  Not on my watch though.  In this episode, I went rogue and decided to host this thing by myself.  Whether that's a good idea or not... it happened.  I did happen to drag a dental-related guest into the studio with me, so believe it or not, you will hear some relevant content!

In all seriousness, this was a fun podcast that gave a lot of insight into what ProSmiles Dental Studio does.  I had little to no idea that there was such an exceptional level of artistic talent when it came to making teeth right here in Rapid City.

John Watts is a great guy to work with.  His freelance work for our office here along with his full time sales and marketing work for ProSmiles is truly inspiring.  I won't go into too many details here... you'll just have to listen!

Check out ProSmiles Dental Studio at http://www.prosmilesdentalstudio.com/ if you are looking for a lab that will handle your case with sincere passion and superb craftsmanship!

It's time to start running your business like a celebrity and make some money doing it!  That's kind of the approach behind Josh Elledge's Public Relations enterprise, upendPR.com.  He claims that you can't just sit behind a computer and keyboard and expect your business to grow from there.  Sure that CAN happen— but you need to get out on your feet and EARN your public relations, your spotlight, your business, etc.  Here in Studio 1-A... we agree with him!

We had a fantastic hour long chat with Josh as he delved into his experiences in public relations, his own successes and failures as a business owner and, you have to listen for this reason alone, he gives us tons of FREE information on public relations.  And it's actually useful stuff!

Interestingly enough, Josh has another successful website that he is running.  It's called savingsangel.com and it's sole purpose is to help you reduce the cost of your grocery bill each month.  It's a really cool coupon blog that every household should check out.  Josh has had a crazy amount of success with this website!

Again, check out http://www.upendpr.com and, of course, check out http://www.savingsangel.com/

Get ready to trade-in your dental drills for some dental lasers after listening to this episode!  We have Dr. Tim Kelly of Rapid City, SD in studio with us and he tells us all about why he loves dental laser technology when it comes to the treatment plans of several different areas of dental health.

Dr. Tim Kelly really loves lasers.  I mean, he really loves them!  Tim JUST opened a brand new dental clinic in the Rapid City area and you can visit his website at http://rushmoredental.com/

Tim and the gang discuss how lasers are used as an adjunct to dentistry, tooth preparation (THE SAFE PREPS without patient discomfort), treatment for periodontitis, implants with peri-implantitis vs mucositis, misconceptions, inadequate or over treatment of soft tissue, crown and bridge margins class V fillings, margins exposure or crown lengthening and when and why lab techs will love you.

From Rushmore Dental's website:

Tim Kelly, DDS, a graduate of Creighton University Dental School, has held a WCLI Mastership since 2004, and in 2007 completed ALD parts 1 and 2 AP. Dr. Kelly is also a member of the AGD, ADA, MDA, AASMD, and LVI. He has been using diode lasers since 1995, and WaterLase since 2002. Through 25 years in private practice, he has performed more than 30,000 WaterLase cavity preparations and over 15,000 laser soft tissue procedures, as well as using diode and WaterLase lasers in crown preparations, crown lengthening, and as an adjunct to periodontal treatment.

Since 2004, Dr. Kelly has worked with BIOLASE Research and Development as a chief clinical examiner and clinical trainer on both and diode and WaterLase laser systems. Dr Kelly was the CTO and a principal partner of LaserGenie, Inc., a manufacturing and distributor of dental lasers systems. He was also the CEO of Minnesota Laser Institute , a laser research and development company.

Over the years, Dr. Kelly has lectured at many national and regional dental conventions as well as Creighton University School of Dentistry, World Congress of Laser Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and other events on the use of lasers in dentistry and how they can improve patient treatment outcomes consistently in less time than conventional treatment.

Apparently it's Old School week on Dentists, Implants and Worms because our latest episode was essentially a University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry reunion with Justin and Dr. Grant Ritchey.  That's pretty much all I got for show notes on this one... this was all Justin and Grant!  Definitely check out Grant's podcast, The Prism, where he does the opposite of what we do on our podcast... deliver relevant, scientific content!

Thanks, Grant, for being a guest on our show!  And it was a lot of fun to listen to you guys talk some shop (and trash) about your times at OU.

From Dr. Ritchey's website:

I was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from Norman High School in 1978. Following high school, I attended the University of Kansas, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology. Although my father is a dentist, it was not in my original plan to become one myself; after all, I had to rebel and do my own thing, right? One problem with this plan was that I couldn't help but notice how much my dad enjoyed what he did, how he thrived on the relationships he developed with his patients over the years, and how much he enjoyed learning new things and changing people's lives. I decided I wanted the same fulfillment in my career, so I swallowed my pride, admitted my dad was right, and attended the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, graduating in 1986. Although it was somewhat painful to attend school with a bunch of Oklahoma Sooners, I survived and was able to purchase the Lawrence practice of Dr. John Albers soon after graduation.

From 1987 until 1999, I practiced in both Lawrence and Tonganoxie, dividing the time between them. Following the sale of my Lawrence practice in 1998, I have settled full time in Tonganoxie, a wonderful small town with great people. Although I don't live there, Tonganoxie feels like home to me.

Brandon Evert was kind enough to reach out and request to be on our show.  He right in the middle of his educational career at Indiana University, expected to graduate in 2018.  So, while he is by far our youngest guest to be on the podcast... He proved himself to be quite the budding dentist!  Moody even grilled him over interview questions that they would ask while in the process of graduating or certified.  He passwed with flying colors.

Fun fact: Brandon also follows another passion of his which is rock music.  He plays guitar and provides vocals for his band, Chasing 401.  They're pretty cool, so definitely check them out on YouTube!

Thanks for reaching out to us and for being a fan of our podcast, Brandion!  We'll keep 'em coming as long as you stay a listened!  Let us know if you need any sort of mentorship and we will be glad to help you out!

By now you've probably listened to Part One of our interview with Howard Farran.  If you haven't, what are you waiting for?!?  Listen to Part One and then come back here and listen to Part Two!

In case you don't know who Howard Farran is (and if you don't you should be ashamed) here's his bio, courtesy of his dental practice, Today's Dental:

Dr. Howard Farran earned his dental degree from the University of Missouri School of Dentistry in Kansas City. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University and has achieved Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. His other memberships include the American Dental Association and the Arizona Dental Association.

Dr. Farran has achieved high acclaim over the years. He was named Alumni of the Year by the University of Missouri and Dentist of the Year by Arizona Public Health. Looks like we're going downtown... to Dentaltown this week!  Howard Farran, also known as The Mayor of Dentaltown, finally had the chance to appear on our podcast.  Since we've literally been bugging him to be on the show since our launch back in February... we just had to make this a two part episode.  So, without further ado... here's Part One of our interview with Howard Farran.

In addition, he was given the Arizona Award by the Arizona State Dental Association for outstanding contributions made to the profession of dentistry because of his efforts to fluoridate the water of Phoenix.

When he isn’t learning about new treatment options for restoring and preventing worn teeth, he enjoys spending his spare time with his four wonderful sons.

We know you're probably more interested in finding out who "The Naked Bike Rider" is than actual content about marketing for the dentist, but this podcast actually features some very crucial information on marketing for the dentist. Jacob Puhl, Co-Owner & Co-Founder of Firegang Dental Marketing joins us from Portland, Oregon.

Jake’s focus has always been internet marketing. He began as a Digital Sales Manager for a company producing over $10MM in annual digital revenue, where he managed a 40 person team and 9,000+ clients. After marketing for small businesses for several years, Jake realized that new patient marketing was his calling. Ever heard of a dentist placing his own implant in his own mouth?  Well, prepare to have your minds blown— and probably cringe a little.  Daniel Hatch, DDS and Jerome Cha, DDS joined us in Podcast Studio 1-A for our latest episode.  Both were taking a continued education course from Justin over the weekend.  Dr. Hatch joins us from Montrose, Colorado and Dr. Cha joins us from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Cha is a passionate dentist practicing in Tulsa, but he is also a very passionate photographer.  He's quite good too!  He recently took a trip to Iceland, where he took some amazing photographs.  He goes into how he became interested in photography, the details that go along with it and why we should all have that one hobby that gets us out of the house and out of the office.

Alright, brace yourselves for this one.  Dr. Hatch is a great dentist, sure.  But he truly achieved notoriety due to his YouTube video of him placing an implant in his OWN MOUTH.  Crazy, right?  He goes into the story on our podcast so LISTEN TO HIS STORY FIRST AND THEN... You gotta check out this video of Dr. Hatch placing his own implant.  Check it out on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVKCFHgUikM

To learn more about Dr. Hatch's dental practice, All In One Dental, check out his website at http://www.aiodental.com/

To learn more about Dr. Cha's dental practice, visit http://www.hoperestorative.com/

Thank you so much, gentlemen, for sharing your stories with us!  We'll see you next time!

You ready for this one?  We had not only a very cool, laid back guy on the latest episode, but he just so happens to be a celebrity— a legit celebrity.  Check it out!

A direct quote from the bio section of Randy's Twitter handle: "Part of the hot Teen Mom 2 grandparent crew. By hot, I mean sweaty."  Oh, and he's a general detnist in Vermillion, South Dakota too.  But, we're obviously more interested in the fact that HE WAS ON MTV's TEEN MOM!!!!!!!

All joking aside, this was a really fun podcast that touched on the Teen Mom fame that Randy has experienced, but we also talked about his experience in dentistry and how he got wrapped up in this crazy world.  What's even better is that he was outside for this whole thing— made us very jealous since we were locked up in this sweaty podcast studio the whole time.

Fun fact: We were Randy's first podcast.  How special.  Here's what he had to say about it on Twitter: "My first appearance on a podcast. If you are into semi-unprofessional talk by dentists"  Semi-unprofessional talk by dentists is damn right, Houska!

You can, of course, watch Randy Houska and his daughter Chelsea on MTV's original series, Teen Mom 2.  If you are curious about Randy's dental practice, check it out by going to http://www.houskadental.com/

We can't thank you enough for taking time out of your lovely, quiet evening just to chat with the three stooges over here in Rapid City.  You have an inspiring story and a pretty darn successful practice!  We'll stay in touch for sure.  Come out for some pheasant hunting with us!

Cheers!

Today's special guest was none other than Dr. Snapchat himself, Dr. Daniel Rubinshtein— straight from Brooklyn, New York!  Dr. Rubinshtein is one of the most passionate and visionary dentists we have had the opportunity to have on our podcast.  He is a cosmetic dentist that has worked in New York and in Florida, but has recently gained notoriety for using Snapchat to broadcast his work to the masses.  We talk about some of the trends of social media and how it can make you, the dentist, all the more attractive to potential patients.

Dr. Rubinshtein graduated from the prestigious Yale University, where he completed his general practice residency. Dr. Rubinshtein also is a graduate of New York University College of Dentistry where he received his doctor of dental surgery degree. At NYUCD, Dr. Rubinshtein was a member of the Aesthetic Honors program where he displayed his artistic and keen eye for beauty. He won first place in the Empire State Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry smile makeover campaign, a prestigious recognition in the dental community, and placed among the top ranking dentists at the national American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Conference.

Dr. Rubinshtein’s desire to help others who are less fortunate has been apparent in his involvement with many charities from oral cancer to feeding the homeless. His time spent on several dental outreaches that served under privileged communities throughout the country, displays his genuine concern for not only the art of dentistry but also the importance of dental health. He also has been part of the growing and exceptional program LEAP, where Dr. Rubinshtein has been invited on numerous occasions to fly out to UCLA and be a mentor for students looking for leadership and motivation.

Dr. Rubinshtein was born to two parents who are dentists themselves. Thus, the innate ability is not only nature, but nurture as well. He developed a passion for dentistry at a very early age, growing up and learning alongside his parents in their Brooklyn dental practice. He would spend summers at their practice zealous to learn and please, and acquiring the dual ability of the meticulous craft of dental artistry and the gentle care patients need.

Check out Dr. Rubenshtein's beautifully crafted website at http://www.drrubinshtein.comyou can also send him an e-mail at mysmile@drrubinshtein.com.  You can find him on instagram @dr_rubinshtein and, of course, on Snapchat @drubinshtein !  Thank you so much for being a guest on our show, Dr. Rubninshtein.  We'll Snapchat you sometime!

Cheers!

We had the incredible pleasure of having Lieutenant Commander Stephen Johndreau join us straight from the Marine Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina for our recent podcast.  Topics include employment opportunities in the United States military, the current state of unemployment in this country, the challenges of finding good employees for your practice, a brief rant from Justin and the dangers of cat scratch fever.

Stephen has an amazing history with the United States Marine Corps. and his message is very inspirational!

Thank you so much, Stephen, for taking the time to join us on the show.  Fun fact: we originally had Stephen as a guest for our seventeenth episode but some unfortunate audio issues on our end rendered the episode intolerable to listen through.  The fact is that Stephen had way too important of a message and was way too good of a guest to toss to the curb, so we had to have him on again.  So, extra thanks goes to Stephen for being patient with us and coming back on the show.

If you have any questions concerning opportunities that may be available for you in the United States military, please feel free to e-mail Stephen at stephen_johndreau@hotmail.com.
